Local developer Taiya Renewable Energy has increased its portfolio of offshore wind projects off Taiwan to 4GW.
Following preliminary investigation and assessment, Taiya has identified a further two 2GW of potential sites, spanning fixed and floating foundations.
EIA preparation is being undertaken, Taiya said.
The company is already developing the previously announced Huangyang and Huanya projects.
The fixed foundation Huanyang offshore wind project off Changhua is ready to bid in this year, while the Huanya floating wind project is scheduled to join a tender in 2023, Taiya said.
With an approximately 4GW offshore wind project pipeline, Taiya said it is open to cooperation with international strategic and technical partners.
“Currently in Taiwan, the offshore wind energy development is still dominated mainly by foreign developers,” said Taiya chairman Irving Lin.
He added: “After some years of learning the ropes, Taiwan has gradually accumulated some experience.
“A local perspective is our greatest strength.
“Taiya Renewable Energy understands better the local needs from community, industry and the government, so we are open to work with experienced strategic and technical partners which share the same commitment to deliver the offshore wind projects in Taiwan.”
