UK company Tekmar Energy has won a contract from Sumitomo Electric Industries to supply a cable protection system (CPS) for the 139MW Akita and Noshiro offshore wind farms in Japan, the company’s first such deal in the Asian country.
Under the terms of the contract, Tekmar Energy will supply the project with 64 TekLink mechanical latch CPS and cable hang-off arrangements to secure and protect the array wires from the foundation hang-off to the point at which they are buried in the seabed.
Tekmar Energy director Jack Simpson said: “This is another significant award for Tekmar Energy which marks our first major CPS contract in Japan.
“We look forward to working on the Akita and Noshiro projects and to support the growing Japanese offshore wind sector.”
Akita and Noshiro are being developed by Akita Offshore Wind Corporation, a special purpose company set up by a consortium led by Marubeni.
They are expected online in the coastal zone of Akita prefecture in 2022.
