Siemens Gamesa has won two turbine orders totalling 170MW for wind farms in Chile.
The manufacturer is to supply 22 5.0-145 machines with combined capacity of 110MW for Ibereolica Renovables’ Cabo Leones 3 wind farm.
Siemens Gamesa will also operate and maintain the hardware for 10 years.
Cabo Leones 3 farm is scheduled to start operations in June 2021, and Siemens Gamesa will complete the delivery by December this year.
Siemens Gamesa onshore chief regions officer Enrique Pedrosa said: “We are honored to be trusted again by Ibereolica Renovables for a new project in Chile, further reinforcing our partnership.
“We have grown stronger together in this country, which aims to eradicate the use of coal-fired electricity generators by 2040. The Cabo Leones cluster will play a key role in enabling this.
“We’re pleased to participate in Chile’s ambitious journey, especially with Ibereolica Renovables, a valued customer.”
The manufacturer has also won a 60MW deal for the extension to EDF Renewables and Ibereolica Renovables’ Cabo Leones 1 wind farm.
It will supply, transport and install 12 5.0-145MW machines for the project at the Comuna de Freirina in the Atacama region of the country.
Delivery will be between November 2020 and January 2021, with commissioning slated to be completed by July of the latter year.
Siemens Gamesa has managed the 115MW Cabo Leones 1 wind project since 2017 and will provide operation and maintenance to the extension for the next 12 years.
The existing project features 55 2.1-114MW turbines, which generate about 350 gigawatt-hours of electricity a year.
Siemens Gamesa onshore managing director Latam Jorge Lobaton de la Guardia said: “It is an honour for us that customers such as EDF Renewables and Ibereolica Ronovables renew their trust in us.
“It confirms that we have proven to be a reliable partner for them and that our technology and support are delivering the results they expected.
“The project also reinforces our position in Chile, where we have been extremely successful over the past 12 months.”
Siemens Gamesa said both deals mean the company is the “supplier-of-choice” for the entire Cabo Leones cluster, which totals 598.8MW.
