Transmission system operator TenneT has selected a consortium of Aibel and Keppel FELS to build the offshore platform and converter station for the 900MW DolWin5 grid hub in the German North Sea.
DolWin5 is slated to go live in 2024 and service offshore wind farms, including Orsted’s 420MW Borkum Riffgrund West 1 project.
Keppel FELS will be responsible for steel construction for the platform at its shipyard in Singapore.
The technical components will be installed by Aibel at its shipyard in Haugesund, Norway.
ABB will supply high voltage DC technology as a subcontractor to Aibel and Keppel FELS.
“Our efforts to standardize offshore grid connection systems in ultra high voltage DC technology are bearing fruit,” TenneT chief operating officer Tim Meyerjürgens said.
“Compared to our predecessor Dolwin6, we were able to reduce DolWin5 costs by around 10%.”
