Fugro has won a multi-million euro contract from Tennet for identifying and clearing unexploded ordnance (UXO) devices for an unnamed offshore wind project off the Netherlands coast.
The marine surveying specialist will carry out integrated UXO services using specialist DP2 vessel Atlantis Dweller, starting next month.
Fugro’s UXO contract with Tennet follows previous involvement in survey activities at the offshore wind farm site.
Atlantis Dweller is permanently equipped with a remotely operated vehicle to help provide safe identification of potential UXOs.
Other technology includes a sub-bottom imager which can reduce dredge scope and so save time.
Fugro business development manager Martin Valk said: “Fugro has conducted site characterisation work on a large number of offshore wind farm developments around the globe.
“Against a backdrop of continued growth in Europe, we are enhancing our ability to respond to demands for UXO identification and clearance services by bringing the Atlantis Dweller into our European vessel fleet.”
Last month, Fugro secured a contract to complete offshore geotechnical site investigations for the proposed 1.4GW Hollandse Kust West wind farm zone 51 kilometres off the Netherlands coast.
The data gathered will be used by developers preparing bids for the site, which will be auctioned off by Dutch enterprise agency RVO in either 2020 or 2021.
The six-month data gathering campaign, starting April, includes a seabed investigation and borehole drilling using the vessel Fugro Scout to tackle the bulk of the fieldwork.
