Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners has invested $80m to construct the Bearkat 2 wind farm in Texas.
The investment in the 162.2MW project was made through CIP’s Copenhagen Infrastructure 2 fund.
Bearkat 2, which has been co-developed with TriGlobal Energy, will feature 47 Vestas V126-3.45MW machines and is expected to come online in December in Glasscock County.
CIP said one or more tax equity investors will provide more capital when the wind farm reaches commercial operations.
Contractor Black & McDonald is providing balance of plant for the project, while Vestas will provide operational and maintenance services for the turbines under a 30-year agreement.
Electricity generated by Bearkat 2 will be sold to the ERCOT power market.
CIP senior partner Christian Skakkebaek said: “We are very pleased to announce our investment in the Bearkat 2 wind project, which demonstrates our continued commitment to investing in best-in-class renewable energy projects in the US.
“This achievement would not be possible without the support of our local partner, TriGlobal Energy, and the continued cooperation with Vestas and Black & McDonald.
“We look forward to the project coming online later this year to create local jobs and help reduce carbon emissions by delivering clean, renewable wind energy.”
Bearkat 2 is the fund’s fifth onshore wind asset in the US. The portfolio has a total capacity of 821MW.
