Lead contractor Van Oord is installing the first Siemens 4MW turbine at Northland Power’s 600MW Gemini offshore wind farm in the Netherlands.
The hardware (pictured) is the first of 150 machines destined for the North Sea project some 85km off Groningen with full power due in spring 2017.
Van Oord vessel Aeolus is tackling the initial machine with components being picked up in Esbjerg, Denmark.
Turbines will be energised as they are connected with many array wires already in place.
“The preparations for this work took an especially long time, during which Gemini and Van Oord worked together closely. The result of this careful preparation, along with construction that has run very smoothly up to now, is that power will be routed to the quay a full 1.5 months earlier than expected,” said Gemini.
