Fred Olsen jack-up Bold Tern has installed the first of 174 Siemens Gamesa 7MW turbines at Orsted’s 1.2GW Hornsea 1 wind farm off Yorkshire.
The jack-up arrived at the Siemens Gamesa Green Port facility in Hull to load its first batch of components last week.
Fred Olsen Windcarrier will install approximately half of the project’s turbines between now and the end of this year.
Bold Tern will be joined by GeoSea jack-up A2Sea Sea Challenger, which will start installing from the same port shortly.
GeoSea is meanwhile just two monopiles and 12 transition pieces away from installing a full complement of foundations at the project.
Seaway Offshore Cables and DeepOcean have so far linked 116 of the 174 turbines via array cables.
Hornsea 1 is due to be fully commissioned in late 2019.
