Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala has revealed plans to renew the UK’s participation in the North Seas Energy Cooperation (NSEC) group, which supports the construction of wind farms and interconnectors in the region.
The announcement follows a meeting of European leaders in Prague this week, attended by UK Prime Minister Liz Truss.
The UK left the EU energy partnership, which consists of eight EU member states and Norway, along with the European Commission, as part of Brexit.
According to a report in the Financial Times, the UK is preparing to sign a memorandum of understanding with the NSEC.
It quoted Fiala, whose country currently holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, as saying: “Our presidency aims to complete the process enabling the UK to join the North Seas Energy Cooperation as soon as possible. This step will strengthen European energy co-operation and security in the face of Russian aggression and energy price manipulation.”
