Marine holding company Purus Marine has signed an agreement to purchase a large offshore wind energy service operation vessel (SOV).
Purus said the SOV is currently under construction and will be delivered directly from early 2022 on a multi-year time charter with an unnamed European renewable energy company.
The SOV is a hybrid-electric vessel that offers best-in-class environmental performance and is zero-emission ready with future larger battery/charging and fuel cell options.
An unnamed Norwegian ship manager and owner will provide technical and commercial services to the SOV.
Purus Marine chief executive Julian Proctor said: “This eco-friendly SOV aligns well with our mission to decarbonise the marine industry, not only by reducing carbon emissions today, but also with the potential to be zero-emissions in the future.
“We are proud to provide this critical marine infrastructure equipment to support offshore renewable energy generation.”
Purus Marine senior advisor and board member Svein Engh said: “We are delighted to have entered into an agreement to acquire our first SOV, which marks the first step in achieving Purus Marine’s goal of owning a leading fleet of SOVs serving the offshore wind industry.
“This is just the beginning, as Purus Marine expects to make additional acquisitions in offshore wind and other marine sectors in the coming year.”
