RES has opened a new renewable energy control centre in Glasgow in Scotland.
The company said the £400,000 upgrade to its control systems offers 24/7/365 monitoring for over 150 assets across the planet.
RES spent two years planning the redesign, of which six months was spent studying control rooms from the energy industry for best practice.
The control centre is the hub for global monitoring and offers five services – monitoring and escalation, work control, site access, emergency response, and grid related services.
Additional capabilities will also be added as RES continues to grow, the company said.
RES said the centre moves it away from a gallery-style suite dominated by one large screen, transitioning to a series of individual hubs complete with overhead monitors and breakout areas.
The redesign also allows for more staff to be on shift at any one time, from a maximum of three people in the old design, up to eight.
Control centre manager Charles McLuckie said: “RES and Scotland have decades of experience in renewable energy and it’s a proud moment that the expertise honed in Glasgow over this time is now being exported across the world 24/7/365.
“With approximately 5000 calls per month to handle at the centre from right across our international assets, getting the design and layout right was absolutely key to ensuring our projects continue operating safely day and night.
“The feedback from those who have used the room so far is great – everyone is enjoying the enhanced functionality, logistical layout and the ability to more effectively monitor a greater number of projects.”
