Van Oord has been contracted by Seaway 7 to install scour protection on the 114 foundations at the 1100MW Seagreen offshore wind farm 27km off the coast of Angus in Scotland.
The turbines will be installed on three-legged jacket foundations, which require scour protection to avoid the effects of erosion.
This is achieved by high precision rock installation around the jackets, Van Oord said.
The work started at the end of October 2021 and Van Oord has deployed its high dynamic flexible fallpipe vessel Bravenes (pictured).
This vessel has a unique method for subsea rock installation thanks to the automated fallpipe system that can be skidded over the side of the vessel, the company said.
This results in accurate and efficient rock installation in close vicinity to the jacket foundations using a powerful remote operating vehicle, it added.
Flexible fallpipe vessel Nordnes will also be deployed to install scour protection on several cable crossings.
All subsea activities are taking place in water depths of up to 50 metres, Van Oord said.
Seaway 7 is the main contractor at Seagreen.
