Van Oord has won a contract to install foundations at Dong’s 660MW Walney 3.
The group will transport and install 87 foundations at the project in the Irish Sea, off Cumbria in the UK.
The 660MW wind farm has been split into two phases – 330MW Walney 3 west which will use 8MW MHI Vestas turbines and 330MW Walney 3 east, which will boast 7MW Siemens machines.
Van Oord said they will transport the foundations, monopiles and transition pieces from “suppliers in Denmark, Germany and the UK” and then install the foundations. Work is slated to begin in spring 2017.
Van Oord managing director Johan van Wijland said: “After signing the contract for the transport and installation of the foundations for the Burbo 2 offshore wind farm earlier this year, we are proud that Dong is again showing its appreciation for our approach to constructing offshore wind projects.”
