Van Oord has won the contract to construct the 759MW Hollandse Kust Noord (HKN) offshore wind project in the Dutch North Sea.
Shell, Eneco joint venture CrossWind awarded the contract to Van Oord after clinching the permit to build the project, which will also encompass five technology demonstrations, including green hydrogen production.
CrossWind project director Tjalling de Bruin said: “We are looking forward to working with our partner Van Oord to deliver the offshore wind farm Hollandse Kust (noord) in the Netherlands.
“With signed contracts in place and the Final Investment Decision taken, work can start in order to deliver clean energy by 2023.”
Van Oord’s activities, as balance of plant contractor, will encompass the engineering, procurement, construction and installation of the wind farm’s foundations, inter-array cables and transportation and installation of the wind turbines.
Van Oord will deploy its offshore installation vessels Aeolus, MPI Adventure and MPI Resolution and cable-laying vessel Nexus.
The CrossWind joint venture will install 69 11MW Siemens Gamesa turbines, according to the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EKZ).

In its 2030 Roadmap for offshore wind energy, the Dutch Government stated that more than 11GWof offshore wind farms will be built and connected to the mainland by 2030.
