David Hinshelwood has been appointed project director for the Mara Mhòr floating offshore wind farm in Scotland.
He will lead development of the project, which is being advanced as a joint venture between Fred. Olsen Renewables and Vattenfall.
Hinshelwood has almost a decade of experience in offshore, having previously spent time at SSE Renewables as well as Babcock International.
Mara Mhòr secured a successful bid in the recent ScotWind auction and was recently confirmed to have arranged more than £3m in supply chain contracts awarded to Scottish-based businesses.
Speaking of his new appointment, Hinshelwood said: “I am delighted to be joining the Mara Mhòr team to lead this project which is situated in one of the key ScotWind leasing zones.
“It is fantastic that Mara Mhòr has already initiated and awarded major packages of work since being awarded seabed rights. I look forward to building on this positive progress, applying my prior experience as we develop an initial proposal.
“Our team will collaborate with partners, key stakeholders and the supply chain to capitalise on the massive Scottish offshore wind opportunity – bringing forward a project that will support Scotland’s renewable future and ambitions to reach net zero.”
Fred. Olsen Renewables head of offshore Carolyn Heeps added: “It is great news that David Hinshelwood is on board to direct the Mara Mhòr project.
“He brings with him extensive experience in offshore wind and in Scotland’s renewables sector, and will be a great asset to the project.”
