Vattenfall has acquired the up to 79-turbine Global Tech 2 wind farm in the German North Sea from Strabag and Etanax.
Vattenfall said the acquisition is in line with its “growth strategy to extensively expand its renewable energy production in the coming years”.
It added that realisation of the project, which will be located some 85km north of the island of Borkum, depends on obtaining a capacity contract in Germany’s tendering process.
The first auction is in March 2017 and the second auction in March 2018.
Vattenfall senior vice president and head of business area wind Gunnar Groebler said: “With Global Tech 2 we also send a signal that we strongly believe in the German market.
“In particular we consider the new German tender system beneficial to the development of wind as it is more cost efficient, which will also lead to further acceptance of this effective and renewable power generation.”
