Vestas is planning 300 new hires within its offshore wind turbine production business, while also making 200 job cuts in its onshore division.
In total, Vestas expects to hire around 300 employees across three factories during 2024 – primarily in Lindø and Nakskov, with some in Lem.
At the same time, Vestas intends to lower its onshore activity level at its factory in Ringkøbing, during the first quarter of 2024, with the adjustment is expected to impact around 200 positions at the site.
The company said it will try to explore opportunities to relocate impacted colleagues in Ringkøbing to minimise the number of redundancies.
Vestas’ decision to make hires in offshore and the cuts in onshore is part of adapting the supply chain and production facilities to demand.
Growth in the future is expected to be driven to a greater extent by the offshore wind market.
“The rapid energy transition and evolving market demands require us to continuously mature and evolve our supply chain network and manufacturing footprint.
“To meet the demand for offshore in markets near Denmark, we will increase our overall activity and staff levels across manufacturing in
Denmark.
“At the same time, we continue seeing very limited demand for onshore in Denmark, and we will therefore move parts of our onshore activities in Ringkøbing to other factories closer to installations.
“It’s always hard to make decisions that negatively affect our good, hardworking colleagues, and we are deeply committed to explore opportunities to relocate impacted colleagues in Ringkøbing to
minimise the number of redundancies”, said Johnny Høy Henriksen, Regional COO Northern & Central Europe.
Vestas continues to have a presence in Ringkøbing, which besides the factory serves as a hub for various Vestas functions such as HR.
