CIP and Iberdrola have completed turbine installation at the 800MW Vineyard Wind 1 off the US while Orsted and Skyborn have delivered first power from the 704MW Revolution Wind site (pictured).
Industry group Oceantic Network said the milestones mark a significant advancement for the US offshore wind market, which currently has a single fully operational commercial-scale wind farm.
The organisation added that Vineyard Wind 1 and five other projects under simultaneous installation have a combined generation potential of 5,825MW and are supported by a 40-state supply chain.
“U.S. offshore wind powers forward,” said Liz Burdock, chief executive of Oceantic Network.
“With the third U.S. project now delivering desperately-needed electricity to the grid-and lowering winter energy bills for millions of Americans-the domestic offshore wind industry is demonstrating its true potential every day.”
“The burgeoning, 40-state supply chain supported installation across five different projects simultaneously-a feat rivaled by few other markets-while creating more than 12,000 jobs and driving $25 billion of American investments flowing directly into our shipyards, ports, and manufacturing centers.”
“Together, these milestones underscore that offshore wind is not a future promise, but a proven, homegrown energy resource delivering real reliability, affordability, and economic benefits today.”
“Revolution Wind is adding affordable, reliable American-made energy to New England’s grid, helping to meet growing energy demand and lower consumer costs,” said Amanda Dasch, Chief Development Officer at Ørsted.
She continued: “Built by local, highly skilled union workers, Revolution Wind is a testament to states tapping their energy resources to strengthen regional energy security. We’re grateful to the leadership of Rhode Island and Connecticut, our labor partners, utility customers, and the many other stakeholders whose collaboration has made this milestone possible.”
