The team behind Vineyard Wind have launched Vineyard Offshore to focus exclusively on the development of the North American offshore wind market.

Vineyard Offshore’s senior management team will be led by chief executive Lars Pedersen.

Pedersen was recently CEO of Vineyard Wind, the company that is building the first commercial scale offshore wind project in the US.

Additional members of the leadership team include chief development officer Rachel Pachter, general counsel Jennifer Simon Lento and Klaus Skoust Moeller, CEO of the Vineyard Wind 1 offshore project.

Vineyard Offshore will lead the development of two lease areas in the Northeast.

Lease area OCS-A 522, known as Vineyard Northeast, is located off the coast of Massachusetts.

In addition, the recently acquired lease area OCS-A 544, known as Vineyard Mid-Atlantic, is located in the New York Bight.

Both lease areas are owned by the CI-IV fund managed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners.

Combined with the 50% ownership of the Vineyard Wind 1 project, Vineyard Offshore has the potential to develop more than 4GW of electricity on the US East Coast.

The company currently has offices in Boston and New Bedford and plans to open a new office dedicated to Vineyard Offshore in New York City.

Pedersen said: “Vineyard Offshore is based on the team that gained valuable experience developing the nation’s first large-scale offshore wind project.

“We are in the fortunate position to build on a large and experienced team that is ready to make a difference in the US offshore wind market.

“Today we are also kicking off an ambitious staffing plan so we can deliver on our bold plans.

“We will hold on to the key values that made the first project successful.

“This means maintaining an active local presence and frequent and meaningful stakeholder engagement – while also working to deliver projects that create American jobs and reduce carbon pollution.”
