Windar secures €50m to deliver Baltic Eagle contract

Windar Renewables has confirmed its decision to invest in the construction of a new factory for offshore wind towers in Poland.

The Spanish manufacturer will begin construction of this factory in 2022.

The new facility will measure approximately 120,000 metres square and will include covered areas for welding, surface treatment and assembly work, as well as a storage area.

The total investment is €80m and will allow the creation of 450 direct jobs once the factory is fully operational.

The factory will have a capacity to manufacture 100 towers per year, intended for new generation offshore wind turbines, and will allow the serial manufacture of sections of up to 450 tonnes, 10 metres in diameter and 50 metres in length.

Production is expected to start in early 2024 and the target market will be Poland mainly, as well as other countries in the Baltic and North Sea area, where demand will grow in the coming years.

Poland is an emerging market when it comes to offshore wind energy, and the first 5.9GW have recently been auctioned, whose winners have been some of the biggest promoters in the wind sector.

The first parks are expected to start generating clean energy from 2025.

Auctions for the second phase of projects, estimated at around 5GW, are planned between 2025 and 2027.

This new international factory will increase global manufacturing capacity and joins existing facilities in India (2011), Brazil (2013), Mexico (2016), Russia (2018), as well as the six factories that the company Asturiana owns in Spain, since it was founded in 2007.

Windar Renewables, together with its strategic partner Navantia, also actively participates in the market for the construction of substructures for offshore wind power (jackets, monopiles and floating structures).

They have developed seven projects in the last seven years, and are currently participating in various tenders for projects to be developed until 2025.
