A new wind energy generation record of over 16GW was set on 13 January in the area of Germany covered by transmission system operator 50Hertz.
50Hertz said the record was set at 8.45pm and beat the previous high achieved on 1 January.

It said the 16GW was theoretically enough to cover the whole of the TSO’s region and provide power for export elsewhere.
50Hertz added that the record was also down to the addition of new turbines, with 19.4GW of wind capacity installed in total as of 31 December, of which over 1GW was in the Baltic Sea.
