Amazon has signed a power purchase agreement to take electricity from the 115MW Ardderroo wind farm in the west of Ireland.
The project, which is located in County Galway close to the 169MW Galway Wind Park (pictured), is due online in 2022.
Power from the wind farm will support Amazon’s data centres in the country.
Ardderroo is the third wind farm the web company has signed a PPA with in Ireland after the Meenbog and Esk projects.
“To be powered by renewable energy in Ireland, we have committed to offtake 100% of the power from these projects without relying on public funding. As a result, we were the first organisation in Ireland to sign unsubsidised Corporate Power Purchase Agreements,” said Amazon.
“Once all projects are operational, we will be the largest single corporate buyer of renewable energy in the country, and we won’t stop here. You can expect to see us announce more renewable projects as we head towards our 100% renewable energy goal.”
