Banks keeps local at Kype Muir

EBSBy EBSSeptember 3, 20182 Mins Read

Banks Renewables has hired local plant hire specialist AB2000 for work on the 88MW Kype Muir wind farm near Strathaven in Scotland.

AB2000, which is based in Cambuslang, will provide plant and mobile cranes to help with assembly of the project’s 26 turbines.

Banks said the contract is one of nearly 40 granted to local businesses for the Kype Muir development, which is expected to deliver about £101m to the local economy during its operational life.

AB2000 chief executive Jim Houstoun said: “We are proud to be working with Banks Renewables as a contractor to help them build the Kype Muir wind farm.

“A number of our skilled crane operators from South Lanarkshire have been involved in this important wind farm construction job.

“We think it’s great that Banks Renewables is delivering on its promise to ensure that as many of the contracts as possible go to local companies so the money stays in the local economy.

“The construction of the wind farm is on schedule to start producing clean, green, electricity in 2019.”

In 2014, Banks launched the Connect2Renewables (C2R) Charter to prioritise local businesses wherever possible for its projects.

Banks Renewables development director Colin Anderson said: “C2R initiative is about ensuring that the benefits brought in by our developments are shared fairly between the local authority, the operator and most importantly the communities surrounding the development.

“We are delighted to be working with AB2000 and their excellent staff and equipment. We want to ensure that good local firms and their employees continue to prosper in helping bring these new projects to life.

“We will continue to utilise local resources and expertise during the construction phases of Kype Muir and we are thrilled to see the tangible benefits that this will bring in the future.”
