Seajacks jack-up vessel Scylla is preparing to install the first monopile foundations at Northland Power’s 268.8MW Deutsche Bucht offshore wind project in the German North Sea.
The vessel has left Cuxhaven port with the first load and is expected to install three monopiles and transition pieces per round-trip for the project’s balance of contractor Van Oord.
The project will feature 31 transition pieces fabricated by an Idesa and Windar Renovables joint venture in Aviles, Spain.
The transition pieces will be installed on top of 31 monopiles, which have been supplied by EEW Special Pipe Constructions.
MHI Vestas will supply and install 8.4MW turbines in 2019.
In addition to the project’s 31 conventional foundations, two turbines will be installed on Universal Foundation-made suction bucket monopiles. Installation of the substructures is scheduled for next spring.
The Deutsche Bucht project is situated some 95km off the island of Borkum in water depths around 40 metres.
It will be connected to the 800MW BorWin Beta offshore grid hub in operation since early 2015.
