Bute Energy has appointed civil engineering firm Knights Brown as Civils Balance of Plant partner for the Twyn Hywel Energy Park in Caerphilly.
Knights Brown will deliver the design and construction of access tracks, turbine foundations and other civil engineering works required to build the onshore wind project, Bute Energy said.
The developer added that the scheme is located on the border of Caerphilly and Rhondda Cynon Taf and represents a multimillion-pound capital investment.
An independent report by BiGGAR Economics for Twyn Hywel found the project will support more than 300 jobs across the region during construction.
The report also found that more than 80% of operation and maintenance spending, valued at £108m in 2023 terms, will go to Welsh businesses.
BiGGAR Economics noted the project will contribute £1.6m annually in business rates, totalling £64m over its 40-year lifetime.
The energy park will also provide a community benefit fund of up to £704,000 per year across the same period.
Twyn Hywel Energy Park will comprise 14 wind turbines with a maximum blade tip height of 200m and generate up to 92.4MW of capacity.
The project was granted consent by Welsh Ministers in November 2024 and is located about 2km north-west of Caerphilly.
“We are delighted to be working with Knights Brown on what is a significant milestone for Bute Energy, Caerphilly, and for Wales,” said Catryn Newton, community investment and communications director at Bute Energy.
“Twyn Hywel puts Caerphilly at the forefront of Wales’ mission to generate home-grown, clean energy and bring down energy bills for households and business.”
“We are delighted to be working with Bute Energy on this landmark project.”
“We look forward to creating local jobs, developing skills, and driving community investment throughout the construction phase,” added Steve Price, divisional director for energy at Knights Brown.
Matthew Tucker of Coleg y Cymoedd and Caerphilly Business Club said the development represents “a significant opportunity for Caerphilly and the wider region”.
“The opportunities for Wales from the clean energy mission can’t be underestimated.”
