Bute Energy has joined forces with world champion boxer Lauren Price (pictured) to bring a powerful boost to the people of Wales.
Raised in Ystrad Mynach, Caerphilly, Price has strong connections with the communities surrounding Bute Energy’s first onshore wind farm, the Twyn Hwel Energy Park.
As the unified welterweight world champion, Price will represent Bute Energy on her leisure kit in the run-up to her fight against Natasha Jonas at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday 7 March.
The Olympic gold medallist will also have a say on how Bute Energy’s Community Benefit Fund, connected with Twyn Hywel Energy Park, is invested to benefit local people.
With her deep ties to the area, Price will provide unique insights to ensure that the fund prioritises groups, projects, and initiatives that have the greatest impact on local lives.
Price said: “I’ve worked hard to get where I am, but I’m also very lucky to have gotten here.
“Some would say the odds weren’t in my favour, but my family, friends, and the whole community back home in Ystrad Mynach supported my journey every step of the way.
“I know how important our tight-knit communities are in Wales, but I also know how some communities are less well-off and need that extra bit of support.
“That’s why I’m proud to announce that this year, I’ll be powered by Bute Energy.
“I’ve learned loads about how they want to fight climate change by creating green energy from our Welsh windy weather – but more importantly, they want to support communities by offering grant funding, jobs, and skills. Communities like where I was brought up.”
Twyn Hywel Energy Park, which was approved by the Welsh government in late 2024, will provide clean, green energy to the region and is set to be operational by 2027.
Over its 45-year lifespan, the project will invest more than £30m into the local community through the Community Benefit Fund.
This fund will provide up to £693,000 each year to support initiatives that matter most to the people living near the park, including youth projects, community improvements, and local heritage preservation.
Bute Energy’s director of community investment and communications Catryn Newton said: “We are thrilled to welcome Lauren Price to the Bute Energy family.
“Lauren’s strength, determination, and commitment to her local community make her the perfect partner for us.
“We have always held the ambition to get more women into renewables. Having a powerful female ambassador as committed to the community as Lauren will no doubt inspire women and girls throughout Wales to succeed, both in renewables and in the contribution they can make to their own communities.
“We look forward to working together to build a brighter, greener future for generations to come.”
