The Canadian province of Prince Edward Island (PEI) is gauging community interest in a new 30MW wind farm in eastern Kings County.
The provincial PEI Energy Corp proposes to build the project by 2019 and another 40MW scheme in 2025, part of a 10-year energy strategy.
As a first step toward meeting the 2019 goal, a public meeting will be held 15 June in Eastern Kings.
Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy minister Paula Biggar said. “We look forward to working together with the community on this project so Prince Edward Island can remain a world leader in producing clean, renewable wind energy.”
The small island province, located on Canada’s Atlantic coast, already generates 25% of its electricity from wind.
The Energy Corp operates three wind farms in PEI, 30MW East Point, 30MW Hermanville/Clear Springs and 14MW North Cape.
