The Canadian province of Prince Edward Island (PEI) plans to add 70MW of new wind energy capacity.
PEI proposes to develop a 30MW project by 2019 and another 40MW scheme in 2025.
The measures were unveiled in a new 10-year energy strategy report.
PEI said it aims to secure federal funding for demonstration projects to expand the amount of wind power that can be cost-effectively deployed.
The province also will explore wind power exports to New England and plans to boost energy efficiency and conservation.
The small island province, located along Canada’s Atlantic coast, already meets 25% of is electrical needs with wind.
“Prince Edward Island’s leadership on penetration of wind energy is commendable and we are pleased to see the goal of installing even more wind energy into the grid,” said Scott Harper, chief executive of the Wind Energy Institute of Canada.
