The Canary Islands in Spain are set to launch a long-awaited onshore wind tender next week.
The local government will go ahead with a bidding round after Madrid authorised an investment of €80m and minimum capacity of 180MW.
The exact criteria of the tender and its date are still to be determined.
Money for the tender will come out of Madrid’s coffers and the EU’s European Regional Development Fund.
An onshore wind sale was initially planned for May this year, but was pushed back after a change of government in Spain.
A second tender including solar and wind is scheduled for later next year, but the size and funding have not been determined yet.
Canary government economics, industry, commerce and knowledge councillor Pedro Ortega said: “This new tender will help us get closer to our target that 45 percent of our electricity production stem from renewables in 2025.”
