DTE Electric Company has kicked off development of an early stage wind project in Michigan’s Thumb region.
The utility has requested Huron County approve a wind energy overlay district in sections of Bloomfield, Dwight, Lincoln and Sigel townships.
DTE has wind energy easements covering more than 20,000 acres and is in discussion with landowners for another 4600 acres, the company said in a letter to county officials.
Huron County has scheduled a public hearing on 30 March.
The utility also plans to build the 50MW Pinnebog scheme in the western part of the county. That project, an expansion of the 112MW Echo wind farm, is expected online by the end of 2016.
