Eesti Energia has inked a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Lithuanian wind developer E-energija for all electricity produced by the 70MW Telaiai wind farm.
The 10-year PPA ends in 2032.
The wind farm, located in the Tryskiai region of west Lithuania, will begin commercial operations in 2022 and will produce 235 gigawatt-hours of clean electricity annually.
GE is co-sponsor of the Telaiai wind farm project and is supplying 13 of its 5.3MW Cypress wind turbines.
GE will service the turbines for 25 years.
Telaiai will be the largest wind park in Lithuania in terms of electricity output.
Eesti Energia said it will supply wind energy to business customers as well as domestic in order to create “better opportunities” for companies to make their operations more environmentally friendly.
The signing of the PPA has acted as a key factor in financing the park said E- energija.
Eesti Energia is regional developer of renewable energy through its subsidiary Enefit Green.
Margus Vals, a member of the company’s management board, said through cooperation and long-term power purchase agreements with other developers, the company is aiming to reduce emissions further and boost the region’s energy independence.
Vals said: “As an international energy company, our task in every home market is to strive for smarter customer solutions and cleaner energy production.
“We want to do this in many ways, which is why we contribute both as a developer of renewable energy and as a buyer of it, in order to offer our customers even more clean energy. We are constantly looking for new ways to grow our green energy portfolio.”
E-energija CEO Gediminas Uloza added: “We, as E-energija, are happy to be at the forefront of the renewable energy development and to sign the first significant PPA transaction in the Baltics.
“By building the first subsidy-free wind farm in the region, we open the door for the transition of the whole Baltic energy system and we thank Eesti Energia for supporting our goals in these turbulent times,”
Enefit Green owns five wind farms in Lithuania.
“Our international brand Enefit has successfully grown its reputation in Lithuania and the company has an important advantage both in terms of price and the content of the offer. Locally produced electricity is of great value to people and we are happy to be able to offer it,” Vals said.
