BP and Pale Blue Dot were among winners of the 2020 Offshore Achievement Awards during a virtual ceremony on 14 August.
The companies were chosen in the awards’ new “Energy Transition for Future Generations” category.
The judges received a wide range of applications, ranging from companies’ efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of their operations, to technology advances that could potentially help Scotland and the UK achieve net zero.
BP was recognised for its company-wide approach to decarbonisation.
Earlier this month the company revealed it is targeting 50GW of net renewable generating capacity by 2030, a 20-fold increase from 2019, as part of a wide-ranging plan to become an integrated energy company.
Plans also include increasing its annual low carbon investment from around $500m today to $5bn annually, building out an integrated portfolio of low carbon technologies, including renewables, bioenergy, and hydrogen and carbon capture and storage.
Pale Blue Dot Energy was picked for its Acorn hydrogen and carbon capture and storage projects which can help support the decarbonisation of offshore oil and gas projects.
This year Jeanette Forbes, founder of PCL Group, “inspiring” STEM mentor and energy sector “ambassador”, won the “Significant Contribution” award for support in promoting STEM to young women in education and her business mentorship efforts in the community.
Forbes said: “I am absolutely delighted to be only the second woman to win the Significant Contribution Award and I look forward to hearing of other female recipients in the coming years as we look to the future of our industry.
“Piper Alpha changed the world for those working in O&G. We that continue to work in the industry must, and I emphasise must, change the environment and transition to leave a significant legacy built around new energy innovation”.
Other award winners included Modus, JFD Global, N-Sea, ITC Hydraulics, Sparrows Group and Serica Energy.
