Enel Green Power has started building the 51MW Cuenca wind farm located in the province of the same name in Spain.
The €55m project is located in the autonomous community of Castiglia-La Mancia in the municipality of Motilla del Palancar.
It will feature 17 3MW turbines and is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2019, Enel Green Power said.
The wind farm will generate about 144 gigawatt-hours of electricity a year when it comes online.
The company secured the project through its Spanish subsidiary Endesa in a government tender in May 2017.
Endesa chief executive Jose Bogas said: “In Spain, Endesa is helping to spearhead the energy transition through significant investments aimed at expanding our country’s renewable capacity.
The new facility adds to the 519MW of wind energy that the company is building in Aragon, Castile-Leon, Andalusia and Galicia.
