Enel Green Power has started construction of the over 29MW Castelmauro wind farm in the Italian region of Molise.
The plant will be built between the municipalities of Castelmauro and Roccavivara in the province of Campobasso.
It will consist of seven 4.2MW turbines and is expected to come into operation by the end of this year.
Castelmauro will produce approximately 70 gigawatt-hours of electricity a year.
Enel Green Power chief executive Salvatore Bernabei (pictured) said: “With the launch of the Castelmauro site, we confirm our commitment to the growth of renewable energy in Italy, thus contributing to the energy transition towards the generation of the future.
“Already today, both globally and in Italy, Enel’s production of energy from renewable sources is higher than thermoelectric ones.
“In line with the global objectives of the Group and with those of the country, we intend to continue along this path to accelerate the progressive replacement of fossil fuels with those with zero emissions.”
