Enercon is nearing completion of the 230MW Niagara Region wind farm in southwest Ontario.
Canadian contractor Borea Construction is overseeing the build, which consists of 66 3MW and 11 2.9MW E101 machines.
The German turbine manufacturer established a temporary concrete tower plant near the 77-turbine project, which employs about 200 workers. Each tower is made up of about 28 sections.
Eptcon is installing two project substations and a 44km 115kV transmission line for the project, which spans a 335-hectare site that stretches from Lake Ontario south to Lake Erie.
“Construction work is on time and on budget,” said partner Boralex, which has an option to acquire a 25% interest for about C$60m.
“It is very likely that the prerequisites for exercising the option will be met,” Boralex said in an earnings report.
The Quebec-based developer is coordinating construction and will operate the wind farm if it exercises the option to acquire a 57.5MW stake.
The Niagara scheme has a 20-year feed-in tariff power purchase agreement with the provincial Independent Electricity System Operator.
