Energiequelle has begun construction on its Minden-Hahlen repowering project in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
The project will see three Nordex N149 turbines, each nearly 200 metres tall and totalling 17.1MW, replace five older units – two NEG Micon NM 60/1000 and three Enercon E-40 models.
With rotor diameters of 149 metres, the new turbines will generate around 40,000MWh of electricity a year, a 600% increase on the original site’s output.
“The repowering in Minden is a strategic step toward securing the future. With fewer turbines, we generate significantly more power, ensuring maximum land-use efficiency,” said Jan Schrobsdorff, project manager at Energiequelle.
The company said the project was developed in close coordination with the city of Minden and local authorities, with approval granted in December 2024 under the Federal Immission Control Act.
Once operational in October 2026, the wind farm will supply enough power for about 9,500 households.
