Energiequelle starts work on 100MW Finnish project

Energiequelle starts work on 100MW Finnish project

The construction work of Energiequelle’s 100MW Mikonkeita wind farm on the border of Ostrobothnia and South Ostrobothnia in Finland has started.

It is first project for Energiequelle using Siemens Gamesa turbines.

The selected SG 6.6-170 turbines , as the nominal power of one turbine reaches up to 6.6MW.

The 16-turbine wind farm is Energiequelle’s largest project in Finland to date.

The construction work of the Mikonkeita wind farm will continue this year, building the infrastructure of the wind farm and the turbine foundations.

The construction of the wind turbines will begin in 2024, and the entire park is to be put into commercial use by the beginning of 2025 at the latest.

The project manager responsible for the wind park Karl Schultheis said: “In any case, the Mikonkeitain wind farm is a significant milestone for our Finnish company as well as for the entire group.

“The total of sixteen power plants is one of the steps in the green transition and the energy self-sufficiency of Finland and Europe, but it is our company’s largest single investment in the Finnish market so far.

“In the whole class, it’s easy to talk about a nine-figure sum. In addition, the park’s total output reaches more than 100MW, which means clean renewable energy for more than 75,000 households.

During the construction phase of the wind farm, the main contractor is NYAB (formerly Skarta), which supplies Energiequelle with the wind farm’s roads, lifting areas, foundations, internal grid, power station and power line construction, which practically means that NYAB is responsible for everything else in the construction of the wind farm except for the erection of the turbines.

The value of the contract is almost €18m.

Currently, NYAB is also building the Energiequellen Lumivaara wind farm in Kainuu, Hyrynsalmi municipality, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
