The Brazilian arm of cosmetics giant L´Oreal is to buy electricity from Engie’s over 212MW Trairi wind complex in the state of Ceara.
Power from the eight projects that make up the complex will supply L´Oreal’s manufacturing plants, distribution centres, research centre and headquarters.
Trairi comprises the 30MW each Fleixeiras 1, Guajiru and Mundau projects, as well as the 25.4MW Trairi, 18.9MW each Cacimbas and Santa Mônica and 29.7MW each Estrela and Ouro Verde developments.
Engie Brazil chief executive Mauricio Bahr said: “The sale of energy to L’Oréal is testimony that sustainability can be both the starting and finishing point of the businesses.
“Partnerships such as this value and promote investments and actions that support the sustainable development goals.
“We are leading the energy transition to a low-carbon economy, working very closely with our customers’ energy needs and promoting continuous development.”
L´Oreal Brasil chief executive An Verhulst-Santos said: “The issue of climate change is one of our priorities in sustainability.
“The decision to focus on acquiring 100% renewable energy produced in the Trairi wind farm aims to reduce the environmental impact resulting from our activities.”
L´Oreal has established sustainable development goals that aim to cut the company’s carbon dioxide emissions 60% by 2020 compared with 2005 levels.
