Vestas secured turbine orders for 1112MW in the US and Brazil as the first quarter of 2019 drew to a close.
The Danish manufacturer will supply and install 86 V150-4.2MW machines for Engie Brasil’s 361MW Campo Largo 2 wind farm in the Sento Se and Umburanas municipalities in Bahia.
Delivery is expected to start in the second quarter of 2020, with commissioning planned for the first quarter of 2021.
Engie Brasil chief executive Eduardo Sattamini said: “This first project with Vestas in Brazil is an important milestone for both companies as it contributes to consolidate our worldwide partnership, and it is also Engie’s largest wind project in the country.
“This new Vestas wind turbine model fitted the project’s wind profile and helped us create a competitive project for Brazil’s free energy market.”
Quadran Brasil has also placed an order for 42 of the same model for the 206MW Serrote wind farm at Trairi in the state of Ceara.
Turbine delivery is expected to start next year and commissioning is planned for 2021.
Electricity from Serrote will be supplied to the Brazilian utility CEMIG.
Quadran Brasil chief executive Armando Abreu said: “We are very pleased with the success of the negotiations for the use of Vestas V150-4.2 MW wind turbines in our first projects in Brazil.
“We believe that this partnership will add a lot of value, quality and safety to our projects.”
All the turbines will be locally produced under the Brazilian Development Bank Finame 2 rules.
In the US, Vestas has received an order for 220MW of V120-2.2 MW turbines from an undisclosed client for an unnamed wind farm.
The deal includes supply and commissioning, as well as a 25-year active output management 5000 service agreement.
Deliveries are expected to start in the third quarter of 2019 with commissioning planned for the fourth quarter of 2019.
Vestas president of the sales and service division in the US and Canada Chris Brown said: “We are proud to expand our 2MW platform footprint and to have been chosen to perform long-term service at the site.
“The 25-year service terms will ensure that the project operates at peak performance capability and delivers clean, abundant wind energy to the community for decades to come.”
An 182MW order for V150-4.2MW turbines in the US was also secured with another unnamed client and wind project.
The contract covers supply, commissioning and a 10-year AOM 5000 service agreement.
Deliveries are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2020, with commissioning expected in the fourth quarter of 2020.
Elsewhere in the US, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners ordered V126-3.45MW machines totalling 143MW for the Bearkat 2 wind farm in Texas.
Including previously purchased components, the project will have a total capacity of 162MW.
The deal includes supply and commissioning, as well as a 30-year service agreement, which also includes balance of plant operations and maintenance.
Deliveries are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2019, while commissioning is planned for fourth quarter of 2019.
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners partner Michael Hannibal said: “We are pleased to continue the good collaboration with Vestas on the extension of Bearkat. Vestas has proven their ability to deliver optimised project performance and reliability.”
Vestas has also signed service agreement extensions with Novatus Energy across seven wind farms totalling 1043MW in the US.
The new deal extend the original Vestas service contracts at the projects to 20-years from from their original 10-year terms.
The portfolio includes multiple Vestas turbine models at sites in Maine, Washington, North Dakota, and Texas.
Novatus Energy chief executive Steve Doyon said: “We are excited to extend our working relationship with Vestas on our US wind portfolio.
“Vestas has been a key part of our focus on maintaining high availability at our wind projects in a safe and efficient manner. We look forward to continuing that relationship.”
