GES has been contracted by Engie to build the French utility’s first renewable energy projects in Chile, totalling 259MW.
GES has already begun the engineering work on the 162MW Calama wind farm and the 97MW Capricorn photovoltaic plant.
The company will be responsible for engineering and construction of the entire Calama wind farm, including both civil and electrical works. The project will use 36 turbines each with a capacity of 4.5MW and a hub height of 94 metres.
Calama is located 12 km from the city of Calama, in the Antofagasta region.
GES will also build the proposed a foundation that will allow the turbines to be raised more than four metres to maximise production.
The civil works will include the construction of the foundations and platforms for wind turbines, more than 20 km of roads and the substation building.
GES has previously worked with Engie on the Three Tables 3 and Three Tables 4 wind projects in Mexico.
The Capricorn PV plant will be located 35 km from the city of Antofagasta.
GES has been appointed engineering, procurement, and construction contractor.
