European Energy has launched an investigation following the collapse of a GE Cypress turbine at the 50MW Anyksciai onshore wind farm in Lithuania.
The Denmark-based developer has confirmed that the 5.5MW machine fell to the ground on the morning of 11 March.
No injuries occurred and local authorities were informed as soon as the incident came to light, a spokesperson for the company said.
“We have temporarily suspended the operation of all turbines in the Anyksciai wind farm to investigate the issue at hand in collaboration with the relevant authorities and our turbine supplier,” European Energy added in a statement.
Anyksciai, located 80km north of Vilnius, is equipped with nine GE 5.5-153 turbines with 151-metre towers.
The turbines were installed in the second half of 2021 and the site is due to reach its commercial operation date this quarter.
Anyksciai is part of a 186MW onshore wind portfolio that was sold by European Energy to funds managed by Lords LB Asset Management and Taaleri Energia at the end of 2021.
GE Renewable Energy confirmed that a turbine collapsed at a wind farm in Lithuania and that there were no injuries.
The company said: “We have immediately secured the site and informed the wind farm owner.
“We are working to determine the root cause of the incident.”
