Fred Olsen Renewables has revised plans for its Crystal Rig 4 wind farm in the Lammermuir Hills in the Scottish Borders.
The company is now proposing an 11-turbine project with up to 4MW hardware instead of 26 machines in the original plans, according to a pre-scoping briefing note.
Tip heights will not exceed 200 metres and will consider mixed heights in order to integrate “the existing turbines with the new, whilst also giving due consideration to the underlying topography”.
The layout for the Crystal Rig 4 proposal has also been changed to areas to the south of existing projects from the north and west previously.
“This allows the proposed Crystal Rig 4 turbines to be viewed through the existing Crystal Rig phase 1 and 2 developments and are largely hidden from view owing to their position set further back and lower down the plateau,” the note said.
The specific turbine model has not yet been selected for the project, which would have an operational lifetime of 30 to 35 years.
The new project would be connected to the existing Crystal Rig substation, which has “sufficient capacity” to accommodate the new wind farm.
Formal consultation will start soon.
Crystal Rig 4 would add to the existing Crystal Rig 1, 2 and 3 projects, which total 214.3MW.
