Gamesa has started building the 48MW Cangfang wind farm in southern China on a site 3400m above sea level.
The wind project, one of the world’s highest, will comprise 24 G90 2MW turbines especially configured for high altitudes, the company said.
They are also adapted to withstand the low temperatures and low air density conditions typically encountered in some regions of southwest China, it said.
Gamesa is building the project in county Huize, Yunnan province, for local developer Concord New Energy.
It expects to commission the wind farm before the end of the year.
