Gamesa has unveiled its first energy system targeting the supply of electricity in areas without grid access.
The prototype combines solar, wind, diesel and energy storage technologies to provide more than 2MW of capacity, or enough power for about 400 families, it said.
The system comprises a G52-850kW wind turbine with 816 photovoltaic modules with 245kW each and three 222-kW diesel generators. A 500kWh/500kW battery will be added by the summer.
“Gamesa’s entry into the offgrid sector represents a fresh technological challenge and a new niche opportunity: development of this class of technology is expected to reach 1200MW in the coming years,” Gamesa director of business development David Mesonero said.
“The advantage of our system is based on its flexibility: it can be tailored for customer needs by increasing, reducing or eliminating capacity in any of the technologies used.”
