GE Renewable Energy is to supply turbines from its Cypress platform to EDF Renewables for the over 132MW extension to the Ventos da Bahia wind farm in Brazil, its first contract with the company in the South American country.
The deal covers the supply of 25 GE 5.3MW machines with heights of between 101 and 126 metres and 158-metre rotor diameters.
Ventos da Bahia is located near the cities of Bonito and Mulungu do Morro, 350km from Salvador in the Bahia region.
The new turbines will bring total capacity at the wind farm to 314.5MW from 182MW currently.
The deal also includes 20 years of operation and maintenance services for all the equipment supplied by GE at the facility.
The Cypress units will be produced at GE’s facility in Camaçari, with the blades manufactured by LM Wind Power at the Port of Suape.
GE Renewable Energy chief executive for onshore wind in the Americas Vikas Anand said: “GE is delighted to work with EDF Renewables on this exciting project.
“GE remains deeply committed to Brazil’s energy future and we are proud to introduce our Cypress turbine to the region’s installed base, enabling additional renewable, sustainable energy access for consumers.”
