The Michigan Public Service Commission has given approval to Consumers Energy to buy the 166MW Crescent Wind onshore development from Crescent Wind.
Developer Crescent Wind will design, engineer, build, start-up and test the project, with Consumers Energy buying the wind farm on completion.
The project is expected to be online no later than the end of next year.
Consumers, in its request for approval, said the wind farm would have a 31-year levelised cost of energy of approximately $48 per megawatt-hour, provided Consumers qualifies for the full value of the federal production tax credit.
That projected cost is lower than the levelised cost of energy of $57.75/MWh projected in Consumers’ Renewable Energy Plan approved by the regulator in February, the commission said.
A commission staff review of the request concluded that the processes complied with its earlier orders, is reasonable and prudent and complies with the Clean and Renewable Energy and Waste Reduction Act.
