GE has proposed up to 600 job cuts in its renewable energy operations across Europe.
The US giant is consulting with union leaders in connection with the layoffs, all of which would take place outside France in businesses including onshore and offshore wind, hydro and tidal.
French media had earlier indicated up to 800 job losses in France, mainly in the former Alstom Grid business and at the Levallois site near Paris, as part of up to 6500 layoffs across Europe.
GE last year completed the acquisition of Alstom’s power and grid businesses for a total amount of €12.35bn.
The two companies agreed to establish a 50:50 joint venture in Alstom’s offshore wind and tidal businesses. Control of the onshore wind business has crossed to GE.
