Power provider LEAG is planning its first wind farm project on a reclaimed area of the Jänschwalde opencast mine in Germany near LHI Group’s existing Forst-Briesnig I wind farm.
The project developer EP New Energies (EPNE) is currently preparing the Forst-Briesnig II wind farm for the Lausitz-based energy company.
EPNE, which develops renewable wind and solar energy projects for LEAG, plans to erect up to 17 wind turbines with a height of up to 250 metres.
Initial discussions have already taken place with representatives of the Peitz office, the city of Forst and the neighboring communities.
A corresponding application for a permit with an environmental impact study should be submitted to the State Office for the Environment (LfU) in the first half of 2021.
The reclaimed area of around 320 hectares on which Forst-Briesnig II is the responsibility of the LEAG under mining law.
It is currently being developed for agricultural use together with ARGE Heinersbrück.
In addition to agricultural use, the areas are to be used for renewable energy generation.
The suitability and potential of additional areas for expanding renewable electricity generation, especially in the PV sector, are currently being examined.
The commissioning of the Forst-Briesnig II wind farm is planned for the end of 2023/beginning of 2024.
The wind farm is expected to generate 270,000 MWh of electricity per year or the annual electricity requirement of 77,000 three-person households.
