Deutsche WindGuard has opened an office in Chennai, India, a week after setting up a Chinese subsidiary in Beijing.
The German consultancy has hired Kumaravel Rathinavel to head the Indian subsidiary Deutsche WindGuard India Private.
Rathinavel has worked in the wind industry for 18 years and helped set up India’s National Institute of Wind Energy. Most recently he was with Gen Powertech as head of engineering and development.
Rathinavel said: “Beside the ambitious goals for onshore wind, India also wants to push offshore wind development. I think the market here will profit greatly from WindGuard’s extensive knowhow and longstanding international experience.
“We are planning on building a strong local presence with our own expert teams in India. This way, we will be a reliable, long-term partner for the players on the Indian market and support them in reaching their goals.”
The Chinese and India offices will enable the consultancy to capture business in these two key wind markets in the region, Deutsche WindGuard said.
Deutsche WindGuard head of business development Leif Rehfeldt said: “India has a long tradition in wind energy and has set itself ambitious goals for the future. The installed power onshore alone is to be doubled by 2022.”
