German onshore wind developers commissioned 1624 new turbines with a cumulative capacity of 4625MW in 2016, research by Deutsche Windguard shows.
The added capacity included 238 re-powering installations totaling 679MW, in parallel, 336 turbines with a 366MW capacity were decommissioned.
As a net result, 1288 turbines totaling at 4259MW were added in the country, Deutsche Windguard said.
The gross addition of 4625MW in 2016 is 24% higher than the amount added in 2015, but still below the record year 2014, which saw an addition of 4750MW.
Wind energy industry groups VDMA and BWE expect a 4500–5000MW expansion in 2017, followed by 3000–3500MW in 2018.
